SE-2000 FAQ

General

Q: Does the SE-2000 have frame delay?
Yes, the SE-2000 has a single frame delay. It is approximately 17 milliseconds.

Q: Can I freeze the frame on an input and dissolve to a live input?
Yes, you can.

Q: Will a relatively cheap 19” monitor ($200) work as the SE-2000 multi-view monitor?
Yes, as long as your monitor has a DVI input and supports the following resolutions: 1080i @ 60Hz or 720P @ 60Hz

Q: Can I use a VGA to DVI adapter to connect my laptop to the SE-2000?
The SE-2000 is a HD switcher, which requires all inputs to be digital.  The DVI connector on the SE-2000 is a DVI-D type, which only accepts digital signals.  If a VGA to DVI adapter is used, the signal is not converted to digital but is simply gender changed to a DVI-I (analog) signal type, which the switcher will not accept.

Q: Can I connect my camera to the SE-2000 via HDMI to DVI-D cable?
Yes, you can.

Q: Will the SE-2000 accept signals from my PAL cameras?
Yes, the SE-2000 accepts both PAL and NTSC signals. In the mode settings menu, select input setting to 1080/50i or 720/50p.

Q: What mode selection setting is recommended when using the SE-2000/HS-2000 with a Sony HVR-Z7U camera?
We recommend setting the mode selection on the SE-2000/HS-2000 to 1080i 59.94 for most Sony cameras.

Q: How can I change the input labels on the Multiview screen of my SE-2000/HS-2000?
A: Please click here to download the configuration utility for the SE-2000/HS-2000. All you need is a serial port on your Windows Computer and you can run the software utility to make custom labels.

Q: Is the Configuration Utility software compatible with Windows 7® OS?
A: Yes, the Configuration Utility software is compatible with Windows 7® OS.

Q: Is the SE-2000/HS-2000 compatible to use with a Canon EOS 7D camera? I want to connect the HDMI out from my Canon EOS 7D to Datavideo DAC-9 converter; then, connect the HD-SDI out from DAC-9 to the SE-2000/HS-2000.
A: Yes, the SE-2000/HS-2000 is compatible to use with a Canon EOS 7D camera. The HDMI output on a Canon EOS 7D outputs a 1080i@60Hz signal. Make sure you set the mode setting on your SE-2000/HS-2000 to a 1080i@59.94Hz signal.

Audio

Q: Does the SE-2000 have embedded audio?
A: No, the SE-2000 does not have embedded audio.

Troubleshooting

Q: The SE-2000 is freezing when I switch from 720p to 1080i modes and vice versa with a DVI cable attached to one of the inputs. Is there a way to fix it?
A: You must disconnect the DVI inputs from the switcher before changing modes on the SE-2000.

Q: I can’t see the multi-view output from my SE-2000 on my monitor. I may have set it to a higher resolution than my monitor supports. How can I reset the monitor output on the SE-2000 to a lower resolution?
A: Here are the steps to reset the monitor output on the SE-2000 to a lower resolution:
Step 1: power off your SE-2000.
Step 2: power on your SE-2000.
Step 3: press the menu button once.
Step 4: press the down arrow button 6 times.
Step 5: press the right arrow button once.
Step 6: press the up arrow button once.
Step 7: press the right arrow button once.
Step 8: press the up arrow button once.
Step 9: press the Enter button once. The switcher will reset the monitor output to a lower resolution and you will be able to see the multi-view output on your monitor.

Q: I can’t see my inputs on the SE-2000. All of my inputs are connected and I know the signals are good. What can I do to fix it?
A: Please make sure that you set the input resolution on the SE-2000 to match the output resolution from your cameras. To do that, please go into Menu and select “Mode Settings”. Select the resolution that matches the output resolution from your cameras. For example, if your camera is outputting a 1080i 59.94Hz resolution, you must set the input resolution of the SE-2000 to 1080i 59.94Hz. Note: please look at page 16 in the product manual for instructions on how to change the mode settings.

  1. I have a question about audio outputs on the SE-2000. I’m interested in doing live video streaming and using the SE-2000 as my video mixer. At this moment, the only way I have to send the feed to the internet is through a BlackMagic card I have in my Mac Pro. Can the SE-2000 output the audio and video on the same HD-SDI cable? Or does it only have the XLR outputs?

    Thanks,

    Matt Keith

    • Hi Matt,
The SE-2000 does not embed the audio on the SDI signal, so yes that is why you would use the XLR audio out. You may be able to stream the audio in two different ways:
      1. Connect the XLR audio out into a direct box, then connect the audio line out to your Blackmagic card.
      2. Connect the audio and video to an audio embedder box, and send both signals to your Blackmagic card.

  2. Hi. Our SE-2000 has two SDI inputs coming directly from Sony EVI-HD1 cameras that are sending a 1080i/59.94Hz signal. The SE-2000 preview out is connected to a Dell U2311H 23″ monitor, which accepts maximum resolutions of 1920×1080/60Hz. When the SE-2000 “Monitor Mode” is set to 1080i/60Hz the entire menu jitters/flickers, even though the “M. Screen’s Background” desktop graphic doesn’t budge a pixel. If the SE-2000′s “Monitor Mode” is set to 720p/60Hz, the jitter/flicker does not occur. Any idea what’s happening and how to correct it?

    • Hi Doug,

Which resolution did you set your “mode settings” to? Are you able to see your inputs? You said the “entire menu flickers” in 1080i monitor mode. What happens after you select “enter” and the menu disappears? Do you have another monitor you can try it with?

  3. Thanks for the speedy reply. The “Mode Setting” is 1080i/59.94Hz. Setting it to 1080i/60Hz results in IN1 and IN2 sources showing up empty/black; the same goes for the PREVIEW and PROGRAM screens as well, of course. Setting the “Mode Setting” back to 1080i/59.94Hz results in the inputs becoming visible again. But, as indicated, everything that’s displayed except for the “M. Screen’s Background” desktop graphic stutters (horizontally, about 3-5 pixels). This includes the PREVIEW and PROGRAM screens, all six inputs, the clock, and all the buttons in between PREVIEW and PROGRAM. I’m able to replicate this on any Dell U2311H 23″ monitor (which is all we use).

    • Hello Sam,
No the SE-2000 does not accept SD/Composite input. It is HD only.

  4. I see the SE 2000 has RS-232 capabilities.
I’m looking to use a third party device to send control strings to the switcher. I want to pick an input and transition to it. Then pick another input and transition to it . . .Is this possible via RS-232. The command protocol document is not clear to me. Thanks for getting back to me.

  5. Hi,

We need to switch Sony Z5 (HDMI toHD-SDI, 1080i59.94 Hz) and VGA (VGA to HDMI to HD-SDI but only seen @ 60Hz). How do we accomplish this with these mixed frame rates? We have tried A/D conversion for the VGA to DVI-D single and dual link, into both input 4 and input 5. We have also used the VGA to HDMI to HD-SDI that I mentioned above however this only works when the mod is set to 1080i 60Hz but our cameras only output 1080i 59.94 Hz. Help!

    Thanks in advance.

    • Hi Jim,

Is there a way to set the converter to output a DVI-D signal at 59.94Hz? Also, what is the mode setting of the SE-2000 set to? Most of the time, the cameras will output a 60Hz but the switcher will read it at 59.94Hz. It is best to set the switcher at 1080i 59.94Hz.

      Thanks!
